Medical School Dr. Fazzio attended Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri from 1969 – 1973. He did very well in medical school. Washington University School of Medicine used a Pass/Fail system of grading and did not rank students or apply a grade point average.. He was offered an opportunity to enter a combined 5 year internship/residency program at the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis to become a Cardiac Surgeon, but he declined in favor of a move west.
Residency Dr. Fazzio chose to attend the University of Utah from 1973 – 1978 where he completed a 5 year internship/residency in General and Peripheral Vascular Surgery. In his more recent practice, he has limited his work to elective surgery, almost exclusively outpatient or short stay. This includes gastrointestinal surgery such as gallbladder and acid-reflux surgery, hernia surgery, and rectal surgery. He does most of his work with high technology approaches including laparoscopy, endoscopy, lasers, radiofrequency probes, and at this time is one of the few surgeons in the world certified to use the completely robotic, 3D, DaVinci surgical robot. Dr. Fazzio has now placed a particular emphasis on varicose vein surgery. He has traveled extensively observing procedures for the treatment of varicose veins that are on the leading edge of technology. From among these he has selected the very best to bring to Boise.
